My father Larry learned the trade at my grandfather's bike shop in Brooklyn in the late 30's. As a teen, he would open the store after school and work till dark while my grandfather worked a 2nd job (times were very tough). In 1946, after a stint with the US Coast Guard, he attended college to become a woodshop instructor and got a job as a foreman at a furniture factory. He felt un-fulfilled until the day in March of 1954 when, with a $3500 loan from his father in-law, Brookdale Cycle and Hobby shop was opened. Items sold included H.O. trains, wood model kits as well as Schwinn, Raliegh & Elswick Bicycles.
With a friendly disposition and a solid work ethic learned by his father, our store continues to survive and grow in the same community for a 3rd generation. We deliver the highest degree of personal service and over 50 years of experience to our customers on an individual basis. This is what truly distinguishes us from our competition. We are the only shop to offer "while-u-wait" repair service on most common bike repairs. Full tune-ups are usually completed in 24 hours. We offer free assembly and local delivery on all new bikes and fitness products in our extensive stock.
Brookdale Cycle offers a large selection of used bikes, including classic Schwinn and other vintage bikes from the 60's & 70's. All refurbished bicycles are ready to ride with a 90 day warrantee.
We custom fit any bike to your specific needs and recommend a test ride on our private drive way/side street. This enables you to have a correct fitting, more comfortable ride, which results in more riding time on your new bike from Brookdale Cycle.
A large selection of bike carriers from Allen and Hollywood can be purchased and installed on your vehicle at no extra cost.
Helmets are custom fit and adjusted to each individual from infants to seniors. Bell, Gyro and Acclaim are the brands carried.
